Transferring from El Carro High, Conner is your “bad boy” of the series, whose best friends include fellow transfer students, Tia Ramirez and Andy Marsden. Conner plays guitar and enjoys composing music. Best known for both his mixed-up relationship with Elizabeth, and later bout with alcoholism. When we meet him, he is living with his mother and half-sister, Megan Sandborn.

El Carro High’s feisty cheerleader and feminist, with an ability to keep Conner under control, can only be Tia. She immediately makes an impression for herself at Sweet Valley High School, in fact gaining the title of Cheerleader Captain, over both Jessica and Melissa. Buts its impossible for them not to like her! Tia and Andy soon take Elizabeth under their wing, and form fast friendships within the groups of both transfer and remaining students.

Jeremy is a student and quarterback at Big Mesa High, and we are introduced to him when he meets Jessica at the local coffee shop, where they both work. The two quickly develop feelings for each other, and we see a fantastic relationship grow between them. Some setbacks come in the forms of Jade Wu and Will Simmons, but at the end of the day, Jeremy and Jessica were made for each other. Jeremy faces a tough decision however, when his parents and two younger sisters move to Arizona. Can he leave his friends, his school, and Jessica?

El Carro’s class clown extraordinaire, Andy Marsden is a very lovable, very patient character. As the series goes on, we see Andy go through a lot of changes, finding out whom he really is. We see him developing a liking and talent for stand-up comedy, as well as realising some very important things about his sexuality. Andy must face both himself and his friends, as he struggles to make an image for himself.

Another transfer student from El Carro, Will Simmons replaces Ken Matthews as Sweet Valley High’s quarterback, as Ken is grieving Olivia’s death. However, Will suffers a shattering injury which forces him to stop playing football for a while, and whilst he takes a back seat, he can see just how divided the Sweet Valley High and ex-El Carro students are. Will decides he must regain full health in order to try and repair this rift and unite the team. Will is the long time boyfriend of Melissa Fox, who share a very mixed-up, but ultimately strong relationship. However, when Will meets Jessica he is blown away…but she’s already involved with Jeremy.

Head cheerleader at El Carro and quarterback Will’s longterm girlfriend, Melissa had it made. When she finds out she has been transferred to Sweet Valley High, Melissa is determined not to lose her reign, even over a new school. But Melissa is an extremely jealous and manipulative person, and can’t deal when Will develops an attraction to Jessica. Melissa proceeds to make Jessica’s life a nightmare and destroy her reputation, all for being the object of Will’s thoughts. Melissa tries to get in with Jessica’s old crowd, and soon becomes friends with Lila and Amy.

Laid-back, relaxed Evan Plummer doesn’t get stressed about anything! Good friend of Conner and Andy, Evan is a dedicated swimmer and environmentalist. Initially Evan is attracted to Jessica, and the two of them date briefly, but Evan also has a fling with Elizabeth, when she is on the rebound. Evan finally seems to find happiness with Jade Wu, and the two of them become a steady item.

Megan is Connor’s little half-sister, and is very protected by her brother. It doesn’t go down well at all when she starts to date Todd Wilkins, especially as Conner is seeing Elizabeth. Megan and Elizabeth become good friends though, as Megan shares Elizabeth’s interest for writing, and joins the Oracle team. It is Megan who offers Elizabeth a house to live in, when she needed a break from living at the Fowlers. It came as quite a surprise to Elizabeth though, when Megan Sandborn and Conner McDermott turned out to be living in the same house.
